Overview

Cotec pairs with Cotec Technology live line testing hardware used on 25kV overhead AC electrified systems. The mobile app connects over Bluetooth so trackside teams can see live voltage, capture readings, manage logs, and sync data — instead of relying only on the physical meter face. Hardware reference: Cotec’s C31 / C31e Live Line Tester family is designed to indicate whether overhead line equipment (OLE) is de-energised and what voltage is present.

Problem

Railway isolation and voltage checks are safety-critical. Field teams need a clear digital surface for live readings from Bluetooth-connected testers — with capture, device pairing, status (link / GPS / battery), and sync — without cluttering the moment of measurement.

Solution

Cotec is a mobile companion for Cotec LLT-class devices: connect over Bluetooth, run active tests with gauge or kV readout, capture values, review logs, and sync unsynced data. The UI prioritises outdoor readability with navy / orange industrial branding.

Development process

Challenges

  • Reliable Bluetooth pairing and reconnect in trackside conditions
  • Presenting safety-critical voltage data without ambiguity
  • Syncing offline captures when connectivity returns
  • Aligning app UX with real Cotec LLT hardware behaviour

Results

  • Working companion flows for home, BLE connect, and active test display
  • Ongoing development — not yet on App Store or Play Store
